Mission Statement:

The mission of the Brown Soil & Water Conservation District is to provide the leadership in promoting and protecting the integrity of Brown County's soil, water and other natural resources through technical assistance and education.

  • BLACK VULTURE 

    • Related to the more well-known Turkey Vulture

    • Has a black head and grey feet

    • When soaring above, you can distinguish the Black Vulture from its relative by the white wing spots located at the ends of the wings and also by the short, stubby tail

    • A compact bird that flies with rapid wing beats between brief periods of soaring

    • This animal has a rather bold behavior and is not easily frightened of people; it is not uncommon for Black Vultures to remain perched on buildings or trees as people pass by

    • Unlike the Turkey Vulture, the Black Vulture has been known to prey upon live animals; in Brown County these animals include newborn lambs, and calves
