Mission Statement:

The mission of the Brown Soil & Water Conservation District is to provide the leadership in promoting and protecting the integrity of Brown County's soil, water and other natural resources through technical assistance and education.

2008 Brown/Highland Practice Envirothon

Students from area schools representing Brown and Highland counties gathered at the Southern State Community College to compete in the local Envirothon competition.  The event is coordinated by the Brown County and the Highland County Soil and Water Conservation Districts to prepare students for the Area competition that will take place in May.  Teams of students worked to answer questions in four different natural resources topics including soils, forestry, wildlife, and aquatics. The local competition had to be held inside due to very rainy weather on March 18th.

1st Place: Greenfield/McClain Team 1

3rd Place: Fairfield Team 2

 

2007 Area V Envirothon

Twenty five students representing Eastern Brown, Fayetteville Perry, and Western Brown high schools competed at the Area 5 Envirothon at Clear Creek Metro Park in Fairfield County on May 1st, 2007.  The students competed against teams from 16 other counties and were tested on the following topics; soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatic ecology and alternative energy.  The top four teams from this area competition proceed to the state Envirothon held in June.

The six local teams represented the county well among the total of 71 teams competing.  The Brown SWCD would like to express its great appreciation to the advisors from each of the high schools.  Tara Woods and Luke Rhonemus coach the teams from Eastern, Beth Smith advises Fayetteville Perry, and Melissa Whitley-Huff organizes Western Brown.  Thank you so much for your time and dedication!

2006 Envirothon

Twenty six students representing Eastern Brown, Fayetteville Perry, and Western Brown high schools competed at the Area 5 Envirothon at Pike Lake State Park on April 27th, 2006.  The students competed against teams from 16 other counties and were tested on the following topics; soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatic ecology and water stewardship.  The top four teams from this area competition proceed to the state Envirothon held in June.

 The six local teams represented the county well among the total of 78 teams competing.  The Brown SWCD would like to express its great appreciation to Jim Hext and Rumpke Consolidated Inc. for sponsoring the 2006 Envirothon teams by covering the registration costs.  Another thank you must go to the hard work of the advisors from each of the high schools.  Tara Woods and Luke Rhonemus coach the teams from Eastern, Beth Smith advises Fayetteville Perry, and Melissa Whitley-Huff organizes Western Brown.  Thank you so much for your time and dedication!
