LIVESTOCK EXCLUSION FENCING PROGRAM

Livestock Exclusion Fencing from area streams has become a big part of the workload at the Brown SWCD in the past 4 years.  The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service have made cost share funds available to install fencing along streams in Brown County.

As of 6/07 with this project $268,908 has been paid out in cost share funds, protecting 22.3 miles of local streams.  The program offers up to 100% costshare.  The only restriction is the landowner must agree to allow the buffer area between the fence and stream to revert back to it natural habitat for a 10 year minimum.

The buffer area that is being created is based on the drainage area of the stream that is being excluded from livestock.

The program has been so popular that most cost share funds have been exhausted, however, to be put on a waiting list or more information please contact the office at 937-378-4424 ext. 122.
