Mission Statement:

The mission of the Brown Soil & Water Conservation District is to provide the leadership in promoting and protecting the integrity of Brown County's soil, water and other natural resources through technical assistance and education.

Pond Construction and Management

The Brown Soil and Water Conservation District provides basic information for pond construction; soil suitability and site selection.  We also provide potential pond owners at no charge, with the handbook Ponds-Planning, Design and Construction.  To determine if your pond will require a dam permit please visit the following website link:

There are many pond management problems that the Brown Soil and Water Conservation District can assist you with such as: weed identification, wildlife damage, fish kills and the overall health of your pond.  We also have available for the public to purchase Ohio Pond Management Handbook (a guide to managing ponds for fishing and attracting wildlife), for $5.00 postage included.
