About Us:
The Brown County Soil and Water Conservation District (Brown County SWCD) is a local government unit dedicated to promoting the conservation of land and water resources. This mission is carried out in partnership with the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Division of Soil and Water Conservation and the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service. While each agency operates independently, their collaborative efforts provide comprehensive leadership and support for conservation initiatives. The District also works closely with a variety of local, state, and federal organizations to deliver a wide range of programs and services.
Brown County SWCD’s agricultural and urban programs address soil health, water conservation, wildlife management, forestry, watershed projects, cost-share opportunities, emergency drought assistance, flood recovery efforts, and educational outreach for both youth and adults. These initiatives benefit Brown County residents directly and support the local economy through cost-share payments and the procurement of goods and services.
For nearly 80 years, Brown County SWCD has provided expert guidance to landowners on effective conservation practices and natural resource protection. Each year, the District enhances its outreach through programs, events, and site visits. With support from federal, state, and local partners, Brown SWCD continues to combat sedimentation and erosion to safeguard water quality. By promoting best practices in natural resource management and sustainable agriculture, the District plays a vital role in preserving the quality of life in Brown County.
